Broken Bow Lake
& Mountain Fork River

Nested in the beautifully rolling foothills of the Kiamichi & Ouachita Mountains, Broken Bow Lake is one of the clearest and deepest lakes in Oklahoma with a maximum depth of over 160 feet.  Constructed 1961-1968, Broken Bow Lake is over 14,200 acres in area and has some 180 miles of shoreline.  The lake is home to the state record largemouth bass (14 lbs-11 oz) and is known for its smallmouth bass, crappie, white bass and walleye.  While bass fishing is popular on the lake, trout fishing rules on the Mountain Fork River below the dam and inside the state park.

Trout Fishing Regulations

Public trout fishing is confined to the area below the Broken Bow Lake Dam and above U.S. Highway 70.  A stretch of river about 12-miles long.

Daily afternoon releases of cold water from the dam, to produce peak-time  hydroelectric power, allow trout to survive our warm summers.  In fact, a brown trout population has established itself in this section of the river as evidenced by the Oklahoma record brown trout of 17 lbs-4 oz taken here in April 2005

Below the dam trout fishing regulations are divided into three zones.  The daily creel limits and tackle requirements vary by zone. These regulations can be somewhat confusing so we've prepared a Trout Fish Regulation Sheet for our guests.
